What is the difference between ceramic and porcelain?
Ceramic tile and porcelain tile are both man made products composed of a mixture of different types of clay. Porcelain tile is a type of very dense ceramic tile that uses two specific types clays (kaolin and feldspar) that are fired at a higher temperature than standard ceramic tile resulting in a water absorption rate of 0.5% or less becoming harder than granite. The various types of ceramic tiles have a water absorption starting at greater than 0.5% and ranging to over 20%. There are many different classifications of ceramic tile that are suitable for different applications including floor use and wall use. Our team of consultants can help you navigate which type is most suitable for your project needs.
